Bhubaneswar, Dec 28 (NationPress) On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to the renowned Odia freedom fighter and social activist Parvati Giri in his monthly radio show, 'Mann Ki Baat'. He announced that her birth centenary will be commemorated in January 2026.
During the 129th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, PM Modi highlighted that the nation will celebrate its 77th Republic Day.
“Whenever such moments arise, our hearts brim with appreciation for the freedom fighters and the architects of the Constitution. Our country underwent an extensive struggle for independence,” expressed PM Modi.
He emphasized that individuals from all corners of the nation played a vital role in the freedom movement; sadly, many heroes did not receive the acknowledgment they rightfully deserved for their sacrifices.
“One such unsung hero is Parvati Giri ji from Odisha. Her birth centenary is set to be celebrated in January 2026. At just 16, she actively participated in the 'Quit India' movement. Post the independence struggle, Parvati Giri ji devoted herself to social service and tribal welfare, establishing multiple orphanages. Her remarkable life continues to inspire future generations. I pay my respects to Parvati Giri,” stated the Prime Minister.
He urged everyone to ensure that the legacy of such unsung heroes, both men and women, who contributed to our nation’s independence, is passed down to the next generation.
“It is our duty to remember our heritage. We must share the remarkable stories of the heroes, both men and women, who fought for our freedom with the younger generations. You may recall that during our 75th independence celebration, the government launched a dedicated website featuring a section on ‘Unsung Heroes’.
Today, this website remains available for those who want to learn about the great individuals who played a pivotal role in our nation’s struggle for independence,” the Prime Minister added.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi termed PM Modi's tribute to Parvati Giri during his 'Mann Ki Baat' program as a source of pride for the entire state.
