New Delhi, July 27 (NationPress) In his monthly radio segment 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the revolutionary Khudiram Bose, honoring the extraordinary patriotism he exhibited during the struggle for India's independence.
Khudiram was sentenced to death under British rule for his involvement in the Muzaffarpur Conspiracy Case, which entailed an attempted assassination of a British judge.
During the 124th broadcast of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi expressed, "Imagine, early morning in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, on August 11, 1908... every alley, every square seemed to pause. Tears streamed down the faces of the people, yet their hearts burned with passion. Crowds gathered outside the jail, where an 18-year-old lad was facing the consequences of his love for the nation against British oppression."
At the moment of his execution, Khudiram was merely 18 years, 8 months, and 8 days old, making him the second-youngest revolutionary to be hanged in India.
"Within the prison walls, British officers readied to execute a young hero. There was no trepidation on his face; instead, it radiated pride—the pride of those who willingly sacrifice for their country. That valiant youth was Khudiram Bose," PM Modi remarked.
"At just 18, he demonstrated such bravery that it reverberated throughout the nation. Even the newspapers reported, 'As Khudiram Bose approached the gallows, a smile adorned his face.' After enduring countless sacrifices, after centuries of struggle, we finally attained freedom," he added.
"The unwavering patriots of our nation fueled the freedom movement with their blood," the Prime Minister further stated.
Reflecting on the revolutions in India during August, PM Modi noted, "August is indeed the month of revolution. August 1 marks the death anniversary of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak. This month also witnessed the launch of the 'Quit India Movement' on August 8, under Gandhiji's leadership."
"And don't forget August 15, our Independence Day... we honor our freedom fighters and draw inspiration from them. However, the agony of the Partition is also intertwined with our Independence. This is why we observe August 14 as 'Partition Horrors Remembrance Day,'" the Prime Minister explained, while also mentioning the initiation of the Swadeshi Movement in August.
