Guwahati, Dec 21 (NationPress) On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage in a variety of activities on the second day of his two-day visit to Assam. His itinerary includes a special interaction with students, paying respects to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, and laying the groundwork for a significant ammonia-urea fertiliser project in Namrup.
The day will kick off with PM Modi meeting 25 high-achieving students from different schools during a unique session on the cruise vessel 'Charaideo' while navigating the Brahmaputra River. This interaction is anticipated to last approximately 30 minutes. Due to the Prime Minister's river cruise, security measures have been heightened along the riverbank, and ferry operations on the Brahmaputra have been suspended until noon, as per officials.
After his interaction with the students, PM Modi will head to the newly established Swahid Smarak Kshetra in Guwahati to honor the 860 martyrs of the Assam Movement, a six-year-long struggle against illegal immigration that commenced in 1979.
During his visit, the Prime Minister will explore the martyrs’ gallery, where busts of all 860 martyrs are displayed, and will also place a garland on the statue of Khargeswar Talukdar, the first martyr of the movement. Subsequently, he will proceed to Dibrugarh and then to Namrup, where he will conduct the bhumi pujan for the ₹10,600 crore ammonia-urea fertiliser plant.
This project is set to have a substantial impact on Assam's industrial expansion, enhance fertiliser accessibility, and support the region's economic growth.
Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision for Farmers’ Welfare, the initiative, with an estimated investment of over ₹10,600 crore, aims to fulfill fertiliser demands in Assam and neighboring states, lessen import reliance, create significant job opportunities, and stimulate regional economic progress. It is regarded as a pivotal aspect of industrial revival and farmer welfare, according to a government statement.
Before returning to New Delhi, PM Modi will also address a public rally in Namrup.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister commenced his Assam visit with the inauguration of the new terminal building at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, unveiling an 80-foot statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, and addressing a public gathering in Guwahati, where he set the political agenda ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. He also participated in a roadshow in the city.
