Both leaders exchanged cordial greetings at the airport, where a ceremonial Guard of Honour was presented to PM Modi.
Later, PM Modi was greeted by a jubilant Indian community at his hotel in Muscat, with hundreds waving Indian flags and chanting slogans like 'Modi Modi', 'Bharat Mata ki Jai', and 'Vande Mataram'.
During this reception, PM Modi interacted with numerous members of the Indian community who had gathered to welcome him and enjoyed various cultural performances.
This visit marks Prime Minister Modi's second trip to Oman, indicating the strengthening of the India-Oman strategic partnership.
The significance of this visit is heightened as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. Furthermore, it follows Sultan Haitham bin Tariq's state visit to India in December 2023, showcasing high-level political interaction.
In a media briefing ahead of the visit, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, noted this as PM Modi's second visit to Oman after his prior trip in February 2018. He emphasized the longstanding nature of India-Oman relations, rooted in historical maritime trade and interpersonal connections.
"The Honourable Prime Minister will undertake a comprehensive review of the entire spectrum of bilateral relations with His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and exchange perspectives on regional and international issues of mutual interest," Chatterjee stated.
India and Oman currently maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership marked by significant collaboration across various sectors. Oman is a vital partner for India in the Gulf region, especially in energy security, maritime cooperation, and regional stability.
