New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to arrive in Oman on Wednesday at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, marking the concluding phase of his three-nation journey that also encompasses Jordan and Ethiopia.

This visit will be Prime Minister Modi’s second trip to Oman, reflecting the increasing depth of the India-Oman strategic partnership.

The significance of this visit is heightened as it aligns with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. It follows Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to India in December 2023, illustrating the ongoing high-level political interactions between the two nations.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi will engage in extensive discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, encompassing the entire spectrum of bilateral relationships. Topics of conversation are likely to include trade and investment, energy collaboration, defense and security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. The two leaders will also discuss regional and global issues of shared interest.

Ahead of the visit, Arun Kumar Chatterjee, Secretary (Consular, Passport and Visa & Overseas Indian Affairs) in the Ministry of External Affairs, informed the media that this is Prime Minister Modi’s second visit to Oman after his previous trip in February 2018. He emphasized the enduring nature of India-Oman relationships, which are rooted in centuries-old maritime trade and interpersonal connections.

“The Honourable Prime Minister will conduct a thorough review of the broad range of bilateral ties with His Majesty the Sultan of Oman and share insights on regional and international matters of mutual concern,” Chatterjee stated.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to address business leaders from both nations at a business forum, aimed at enhancing commercial and investment collaborations.

The Prime Minister will also engage with the Indian community in Oman, recognizing their pivotal role in fortifying bilateral relations and contributing to Oman’s economic growth.

India and Oman currently maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership, characterized by robust collaboration across various sectors. Oman remains a crucial partner for India in the Gulf region, with strong ties in energy security, maritime collaboration, and regional stability.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit is expected to further strengthen bilateral relations and provide new impetus to India-Oman cooperation in the future.
