What Key Railway Infrastructure Projects Will PM Modi Unveil in J&K?

New Delhi, June 5 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch transformative railway projects this Friday, aimed at revolutionizing the infrastructure of the Jammu and Kashmir region. The highlight is the remarkable Chenab Rail Bridge, which will rise to an unmatched height among railway arch bridges globally, showcasing extraordinary human innovation. Complementing it is the Anji Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed rail bridge, enhancing connectivity across this challenging landscape.

The ceremonial launch of the Vande Bharat Trains and the introduction of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link will significantly improve travel efficiency between Jammu and Srinagar. These projects are part of a substantial investment exceeding Rs 46,000 crore, designed to enhance transportation, improve medical access, and elevate the socio-economic status of Jammu and Kashmir into a new era of prosperity.

In an exclusive interview, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized the historic importance of this initiative, noting that the vision of connecting Jammu and Kashmir through a strong rail network has been a long-cherished dream. Thanks to the determination of the Prime Minister, this project has overcome significant obstacles to become a reality.

The minister stated, “Chenab and Anji Bridges are architectural wonders born from intricate engineering, representing a moment of great pride for the nation’s technical experts.” He also acknowledged the significant challenges faced during the construction of the Chenab Bridge, given its location in a seismic zone five.

“The presence of wind tunnels between towering mountains posed a major challenge, requiring a design capable of withstanding gusts of up to 260 kilometers per hour. The effort to unite its towering arches symbolizes perseverance, where every obstacle was addressed with exceptional mastery, engineering, and craftsmanship in harmony with nature,” Railway Minister Vaishnaw noted.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the transformative effect of the Chenab Rail Bridge on the connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. He elaborated on the significance of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link for all-weather access, while the introduction of Vande Bharat trains between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Srinagar heralds a new era of vibrant spiritual tourism and abundant job opportunities.
