New Delhi, Sep 10 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed a favorable response on Wednesday to US President Donald Trump's suggestion to restart trade negotiations between India and the United States. He highlighted that these discussions aim to "unlock the limitless potential of the India-US partnership."
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump revealed the revival of talks to tackle trade barriers between the two nations.
In reaction to Trump's comments, PM Modi shared on X his confidence in the strong relationship between India and the US, expressing optimism regarding the ongoing trade discussions.
“India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to secure a brighter, more prosperous future for both our people,” PM Modi posted on X.
On Tuesday (during US time), Trump announced the continuation of trade discussions with India.
“I am pleased to announce that India and the United States of America are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” he stated on Truth Social.
Trump characterized Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “very good friend” and expressed eagerness to converse with him “in the upcoming weeks.”
“I feel certain that there will be no difficulty in coming to a successful conclusion for both of our great countries,” he added.
This statement comes after a recent softening of rhetoric from the US side.
Earlier on Friday, during a White House press conference, Trump stated, “I’ll always be friends with Prime Minister Modi” and referred to him as a "great Prime Minister."
On August 27, Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on Indian imports to the US, doubling an earlier 25 percent levy due to India's ongoing purchase of Russian oil amidst the Ukraine conflict.
