Washington, Sep 10 (NationPress) The US media on Wednesday celebrated the recent exchange of positive communications between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump, indicating a hopeful outlook towards addressing tariff issues and resuming negotiations to dismantle trade barriers.
Leading media outlet Fox Business highlighted the revival of trade discussions with a headline stating, "Modi and Trump express mutual optimism for US-India trade negotiations moving forward." The article remarked on a notable transformation in bilateral relations following months of escalated trade conflicts.
The exchange reflects both nations' commitment to progress, although it noted that ongoing disputes in sectors like agriculture and energy still hold the negotiations at a critical juncture.
On Tuesday, President Trump announced the recommencement of trade discussions with India, stating on Truth Social, "I am pleased to announce that India, and the United States of America, are continuing negotiations to address the Trade Barriers between our two Nations."
Trump also referred to Modi as a “very good friend” and expressed eagerness to converse with him in the upcoming weeks.
In response, PM Modi took to X to reaffirm the strong India-US relationship and voiced optimism regarding the trade discussions, affirming, "India and the US are close friends and natural partners. I am confident that our trade negotiations will pave the way for unlocking the limitless potential of the India-US partnership. Our teams are working to conclude these discussions at the earliest. I am also looking forward to speaking with President Trump. We will work together to ensure a brighter, prosperous future for both our peoples."
Bloomberg also published an editorial titled, "Don’t Let Tariffs Derail the US-India Relationship," urging both nations to remain mindful of their long-term interests.
The editorial advised the Trump administration to continue its support for the world’s largest democracy, emphasizing its value as a strategic partner in a critical region.
“The White House must not forget that the rationale for American support for India remains unchanged. As the world’s largest democracy, India can significantly contribute as part of the 'Quad' diplomatic group, alongside Japan and Australia, in diversifying supply chains, advancing technology, and maintaining a rules-based order against Chinese influence,” the piece elaborated.
It cautioned India against being swayed by frustration from Washington, stating, “Neither China nor Russia will likely offer the investment, technology transfers, or access to advanced weaponry that America can. India’s primary task should be to preserve and enhance other aspects of its relationship with the US - such as cooperation on semiconductors, quantum technology, and defense production - irrespective of the trade negotiations' progress.”
Simultaneously, Bloomberg’s Editorial Board warned that due to the “mood swings” in Washington, a deal is not guaranteed but expressed hope that it might yield benefits in the long run.
