New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, expressed his enthusiasm for the newly established India-US trade agreement, referring to it as a "pivotal advancement" in the economic relationship between the two nations.
The trade deal, finalized on Monday following a conversation between PM Modi and President Trump, has resulted in a reduction of US tariffs on Indian exports to 18% and an easing of trade restrictions on American products entering India.
Gadkari remarked, "This moment signifies a pivotal advancement in India–US economic relations, as the trade deal has been concluded with tariffs now at 18%, paving the way for new opportunities for growth and collaboration. My sincere congratulations to Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump for their leadership in achieving this landmark agreement," he posted on X.
He further emphasized that the agreement "bolsters trust, enhances business confidence, and lays the groundwork for deeper trade, investment, and mutual prosperity for both countries."
Earlier on Monday, Trump noted that a phone call with Prime Minister Modi had catalyzed the deal.
He mentioned that India would cease purchasing Russian oil and increase its imports of US energy, technology, and agricultural goods. Trump asserted that the agreement would fortify the connection between the two nations and aid efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.
PM Modi also took to X to state, "It was wonderful to talk with my dear friend President Trump today. I am thrilled that Made in India products will now enjoy a lower tariff of 18%. A heartfelt thank you to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for this excellent announcement."
He added that when two "major economies" and the "world's largest democracies" collaborate, "it benefits our citizens and unlocks vast opportunities for mutually advantageous cooperation."
Praising President Trump's "leadership" in promoting global peace, stability, and prosperity, the Prime Minister stated, "India fully backs his efforts for peace."
"I look forward to working closely with him to elevate our partnership to unprecedented levels," PM Modi concluded.
