New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) The India-US trade agreement stands as a truly beneficial arrangement, with significant advantages for both the citizens and industries of the nations, stated Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Monday.
In an extensive post on Truth Social, US President Donald Trump announced that the deal would swiftly lower the US reciprocal tariff on Indian products from 25 percent to 18 percent, describing it as a pivotal change in bilateral trade relations associated with energy collaboration and larger geopolitical aspirations.
Vaishnaw remarked, “The US and India are the world’s largest democracies, and our nations are natural allies. United, we can leverage our massive potential for peace and development.”
He added, “With our complementary strengths, we can jointly create technologies and develop solutions that will serve the global community. This trade agreement promises a brighter future for both countries—it's a win-win scenario.”
As part of the agreement, the US will eliminate a 25 percent tariff associated with Russian oil purchases in exchange for India ceasing its crude oil imports from Russia.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that products labeled ‘Made in India’ will now benefit from a reduced tariff of 18 percent, following Trump's announcement of the trade deal.
In a post on X, Modi expressed, “It was wonderful to converse with my dear friend President Trump today.”
“I am thrilled that ‘Made in India’ products will now enjoy a reduced tariff of 18 percent. A heartfelt thank you to President Trump from the 1.4 billion people of India for this excellent news,” the Prime Minister wrote.
He further stated, “When two major economies and the largest democracies collaborate, it benefits our citizens and unlocks vast opportunities for cooperative growth. Trump's leadership is essential for global peace, stability, and prosperity, and India fully supports his peace initiatives.”
Looking ahead, Modi expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with Trump to elevate their partnership to unprecedented levels.
