New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Industry leaders expressed their enthusiasm on Monday regarding the recently announced trade agreement between India and the US, as proclaimed by President Donald Trump. They noted that India has positioned itself favorably amidst this "uncertain geopolitical landscape".
As part of the agreement, the United States will eliminate a 25 percent tariff associated with Russian oil purchases, contingent upon India ceasing its crude imports from Russia. In a comprehensive statement on Truth Social, Trump highlighted that this deal would promptly lower the U.S. reciprocal tariff on Indian products from 25 percent to 18 percent, marking a significant transformation in bilateral trade relations tied to energy collaboration and broader geopolitical objectives.
“First, the Mother of all deals with the EU, now the Father of all deals with the US — a remarkable achievement for PM Modi's administration! Patience truly pays off,” tweeted Harsh Goenka, Chairman of RPG Enterprises.
Kunal Bahl, an entrepreneur and former CEO of Snapdeal, remarked, “We have secured agreements with most major economies while simultaneously establishing a resilient and growth-oriented domestic economy. Incredible leadership from PM Modi.”
PM Modi remarked that ‘Made in India’ products will now benefit from an 18 percent reduced tariff as US President Donald Trump confirmed the trade deal.
He expressed on X that it was “wonderful to connect with my dear friend President Trump today”.
“I am thrilled that ‘Made in India’ products will now encounter a reduced tariff of 18 percent. A huge thank you to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion citizens of India for this fantastic announcement,” the Prime Minister tweeted.
“When two major economies and the world’s largest democracies unite, it serves the interests of our people and opens up vast possibilities for mutually advantageous collaboration. President Trump’s leadership is crucial for global peace, stability, and prosperity. India fully backs his initiatives for peace,” PM Modi added.
He expressed eagerness to collaborate closely with Trump to “elevate our partnership to unprecedented levels”.
