Washington, Feb 3 (NationPress) The Indian Ambassador to the US, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, expressed enthusiasm regarding the recent trade agreement between the two nations, stating that the new developments "mark an exhilarating new chapter in our collaboration".
This announcement followed the trade deal finalized on Monday between India and the United States.
In a message on X, the Indian Ambassador commented, "A significant VICTORY for a pivotal partnership under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump. The trade agreement between India and the USA opens up extensive new avenues for both economies and the citizens of our two great nations. Today's news paves the way for an exhilarating new chapter in our collaboration."
Earlier, the US President had announced that India and the United States had come to a trade agreement, detailing its key points following a phone call with PM Modi, whom he regarded as "one of my closest allies."
In a comprehensive post on Truth Social, Trump noted that the agreement would instantly lower the US reciprocal tariff on Indian products from 25 percent to 18 percent, labeling it a significant transformation in bilateral trade relations associated with energy collaboration and larger geopolitical objectives.
Trump mentioned that the two leaders talked about "numerous matters, including trade and concluding the conflict with Russia and Ukraine." He asserted that PM Modi had consented to cease purchasing Russian oil and to boost imports from the United States, and possibly from Venezuela.
"This will aid in ENDING THE WAR in Ukraine, which is currently ongoing, with countless lives being lost every week!" Trump stated.
According to Trump, the trade agreement would be effective immediately. He indicated that India would "proceed to eliminate their tariffs and non-tariff barriers against the United States, to ZERO."
Trump also mentioned that PM Modi is devoted to "BUY AMERICAN" at a significantly higher level. He added that India would acquire "over $500 BILLION of US energy, technology, agricultural products, coal, and various other goods."
"Our remarkable relationship with India will continue to grow stronger moving forward," Trump wrote. "Prime Minister Modi and I are two individuals who GET THINGS DONE."
PM Modi also took to X and expressed, "It was wonderful to converse with my dear friend President Trump today. Thrilled that Made in India products will now enjoy a reduced tariff of 18 percent. Huge thanks to President Trump on behalf of the 1.4 billion citizens of India for this fantastic announcement."
He stated that when two "large economies" and the "world's largest democracies" collaborate, "it benefits our citizens and unleashes tremendous opportunities for mutually advantageous cooperation."
Praising President Trump's "leadership" in advocating for global peace, stability, and prosperity, the Prime Minister stated, "India fully endorses his efforts for peace."
"I eagerly anticipate working closely with him to elevate our partnership to unmatched heights," PM Modi concluded.
