New Delhi, Feb 3 (NationPress) Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed on Tuesday that the recent trade agreement between India and the US will be advantageous for the citizens of these two significant democracies. She extended her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump for their roles in finalizing the deal.
Sitharaman took to X to announce, "Great news for Made In India goods, which will now enjoy a lowered tariff of 18 percent. I appreciate the leadership of PM Modi and President Trump for making this happen. The people of our two major democracies are poised to reap the benefits."
Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Railways and Information Technology, also shared his excitement on social media regarding the trade agreement between India and the US.
"As the largest democracies in the world, the US and India are natural partners. Together, we possess vast potential for fostering peace and development. Our complementary strengths can be harnessed to co-create technologies and develop solutions that will benefit the globe," Vaishnaw shared on X.
"The trade deal between the US and India paves the way for a brighter future for both nations. This agreement is a win-win situation, significantly benefiting the citizens and industries in both countries," he added.
Earlier on Monday, Trump mentioned that a phone call with PM Modi facilitated the deal, which reduces US tariffs on Indian products to 18 percent while also easing Indian trade restrictions on US goods.
Trump noted that India would cease purchasing Russian oil and instead increase imports of US energy, technology, and agricultural products. He emphasized that this agreement will fortify the relationship between the two nations and aid in efforts to resolve the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In response, PM Modi tweeted, "It was wonderful to connect with my dear friend President Trump today. I'm thrilled that Made in India products will now benefit from a reduced tariff of 18 percent. A big thank you to President Trump on behalf of 1.4 billion Indians for this fantastic announcement."
He remarked that collaboration between two large economies and the world's largest democracies brings immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.
PM Modi praised President Trump's leadership in advocating for global peace, stability, and prosperity, stating, "India wholeheartedly supports his initiatives for peace."
"I eagerly anticipate working closely with him to elevate our partnership to unprecedented heights," PM Modi concluded.
