New Delhi, Sep 11 (NationPress) Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal shared on Thursday that the initial segment of the India-US trade agreement is anticipated to be completed by November. He highlighted that negotiations between the two nations are progressing positively, with both parties expressing satisfaction with the advancements made thus far.
While addressing reporters in Bihar, Goyal recalled that in February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump had directed their respective ministers to work towards finalizing the agreement by November. "In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Trump mandated us to ensure a favorable agreement by November," Goyal stated.
“The first segment of that agreement, the first tranche, is expected to be ready by November 2025, and discussions have been ongoing since March, with significant progress being made in a positive atmosphere, leaving both sides content with the developments,” Goyal elaborated.
His comments came shortly after PM Modi and President Trump engaged in a cordial exchange on social media.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social, expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing negotiations and his belief that both countries would achieve a fruitful resolution. “I am delighted to announce that India and the United States of America are actively negotiating to overcome the Trade Barriers between our two Nations,” Trump stated.
He also expressed eagerness to converse with his “very good friend” Prime Minister Modi in the upcoming weeks.
In response on X, PM Modi acknowledged the US as a close friend and a natural partner. The Prime Minister emphasized that the trade discussions will help unlock the immense potential of the India-US collaboration and assured that both teams are dedicated to concluding the negotiations swiftly.
Trump later reshared PM Modi’s post, underscoring the positive rapport between the two leaders.
