New Delhi, March 7 (NationPress) On Saturday, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal emphasized that all trade agreements have been crafted to safeguard India's national interests, asserting that the nation has achieved the most favorable trade agreement with the United States compared to its global competitors.
During his address at the ‘Raisina Dialogue 2026’, Goyal noted that India has transformed into a self-assured nation over the past decade, and highlighted the robust relationship between New Delhi and Washington.
“US President Donald Trump has consistently praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. We maintain excellent relations with our counterparts in the US,” Goyal remarked. “The bond between India and the US is incredibly strong, and we have secured the best deal among all competing nations,” he added.
“Both nations bear a significant responsibility; the US is the world’s largest economy, valued at $30 trillion, and cannot be overlooked,” he stated.
Goyal underscored the creation of a World Wide Web of trade partnerships, asserting the multifaceted strength of the India-US relationship.
He also mentioned that India is prepared to recalibrate the proposed trade agreement with the United States if necessary, particularly in light of the recent US Supreme Court ruling that overturned tariff increases introduced by the Trump administration.
“In light of the shifting landscape regarding US tariffs, we will remain vigilant to ensure India’s interests are prioritized,” said Goyal at a recent event. “This is an evolving scenario, and the Trump administration has indicated they have other options. Tariffs could rise to 15 percent next week. Ongoing discussions are in progress, and I have indicated that we will rebalance the deal if conditions change.”
