New Delhi, Jan 2 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Grand International Exposition of Sacred Piprahwa Relics associated with Bhagwan Buddha at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in Delhi on Saturday, January 3.

In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister expressed, “Tomorrow, 3rd January, is a significant day for enthusiasts of history, culture, and the principles of Bhagwan Buddha. At 11 AM, the Grand International Exposition titled ‘The Light & the Lotus: Relics of the Awakened One’ will be inaugurated at the Rai Pithora Cultural Complex in Delhi.”

Emphasizing the importance of this exhibition, PM Modi noted, “This Exposition showcases: The Piprahwa relics that were repatriated after over a century. Genuine relics and archaeological artifacts from Piprahwa preserved in collections from the National Museum, New Delhi, and the Indian Museum, Kolkata.”

Unearthed in 1898, the Piprahwa relics hold a crucial role in the archaeological exploration of early Buddhism. They are recognized as some of the earliest and most historically significant relic deposits directly linked to Bhagwan Buddha, as per an official statement. Archaeological proof connects the Piprahwa site with ancient Kapilavastu, believed to be where Gautam Buddha spent his formative years prior to renunciation.

This exposition highlights India’s lasting civilizational bond with the teachings of Buddha and underscores the Prime Minister’s pledge to safeguard and promote the nation’s rich spiritual and cultural legacy. The recent repatriation of these relics was made feasible through persistent governmental efforts, institutional cooperation, and innovative public-private partnerships.

Organized thematically, the exhibition includes a reconstructed interpretive model inspired by the Sanchi stupa at its center, displaying authentic relics from national collections alongside the repatriated treasures. Other segments comprise Piprahwa Revisited, Vignettes of the Life of Buddha, Intangible in the Tangible: The Aesthetic Language of Buddhist Teachings, Expansion of Buddhist Art and Ideals Beyond Borders, and Repatriation of Cultural Artefacts: The Continuing Endeavour.

To enhance public involvement and understanding, the exposition is bolstered by a comprehensive audio-visual experience, featuring immersive films, digital reconstructions, interpretive projections, and multimedia presentations. These components provide accessible insights into the life of Bhagwan Buddha, the discovery and journey of the Piprahwa relics, and the artistic traditions influenced by his teachings.
