New Delhi, Sep 13 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commence a two-day tour of Assam, Manipur, and Mizoram on Saturday, where he will launch an array of developmental initiatives.

As per officials, the Prime Minister will first land in the capital of Mizoram to unveil the 51.38-km Bairabi-Sairang railway project, effectively connecting Aizawl as the fourth capital city in the Northeast to have rail access, following Guwahati, Agartala, and Itanagar.

Accompanied by several central ministers, PM Modi will inaugurate three new train services linking Aizawl with Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata. He is also slated to address public gatherings. The new train services include the Sairang-Anand Vihar (Delhi) Rajdhani Express (weekly), Kolkata-Sairang-Kolkata Express (tri-weekly), and Guwahati-Sairang-Guwahati Express (daily).

Following his engagements in Aizawl, the Prime Minister will travel to Manipur, marking his first visit since the outbreak of ethnic violence in May 2023.

He will hold public meetings in Churachandpur and Imphal, where he will unveil projects worth Rs 8,500 crore. From Peace Ground in Churachandpur, he will lay the foundation for various initiatives valued at Rs 7,300 crore, in an area predominantly inhabited by Kuki-Zo tribes.

Additionally, he will inaugurate infrastructure projects amounting to Rs 1,200 crore during a public gathering at the historic Kangla Fort in Imphal.

Officials report that PM Modi is expected to meet local MLAs, leaders, and Civil Society Organizations in both Churachandpur and Imphal.

Prior to the Prime Minister's visit to Manipur, Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of Spear Corps, conducted a thorough review of the security situation in Churachandpur and other districts.

The Army officer assessed the security environment in various districts, including areas along the India-Myanmar border, as well as the preparedness of forces, according to a defense spokesman.

Due to prolonged ethnic conflicts between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13, following the resignation of N. Biren Singh as Chief Minister.

The 60-member Manipur Assembly is currently under suspended animation following the imposition of President’s Rule, with a tenure lasting until 2027.

After his engagements in Manipur, the Prime Minister will head to Guwahati for a two-day visit. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma previously announced that PM Modi's visit to Assam would occur from September 13 to 14.

This visit coincides with the birth centenary celebrations of the cultural figure and Bharat Ratna awardee Bhupen Hazarika, with official celebrations commencing on September 13 in Guwahati.

On September 14, PM Modi is expected to unveil projects exceeding Rs 19,000 crore across various locations in Assam.

In Darrang district, he will lay the foundation stone for Darrang Medical College, along with a nursing school and a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) school, with a total investment of Rs 567 crore.

He will also initiate the foundation stone for the Narengi-Kuruwa bridge and the Guwahati Ring Road project, aimed at connecting Kamrup and Darrang districts in Assam, as well as Ri Bhoi in Meghalaya, with an estimated investment of Rs 7,000 crore.

According to officials in Guwahati, the Prime Minister will then travel to the Numaligarh refinery in Golaghat district, where he will inaugurate a new over Rs 5,000 crore bamboo-based ethanol plant and lay the foundation stone for a Petro Fluidised Catalytic Cracker Unit valued at more than Rs 7,000 crore.
