Businesses located in affected regions will benefit from a six-month exemption from Social Security contributions and will have access to a simplified temporary layoff program lasting three months. Included in this package are two credit lines totaling 1.5 billion euros aimed at bolstering business liquidity and facilitating structural recovery. Additional public funding will be allocated for the repair of transportation infrastructure, public facilities, and cultural heritage sites.
According to local media, Storm Kristin, which has been battering Portugal since last Wednesday, has led to at least eight deaths. The regions most severely affected include Leiria, approximately 140 km north of Lisbon, Coimbra, around 195 km north of the capital, along with the districts of Santarem and Lisbon.
