Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 6 (NationPress) President Droupadi Murmu is anticipated to journey aboard the Indian Railways’ newest Self-Propelled Inspection Car (SPIC), a cutting-edge model recently integrated into the Southern Railway fleet, during her forthcoming trip to Sabarimala on October 22.
The President is likely to utilize the newly introduced SPIC for a unique inspection-cum-travel run across sections of the Southern Railway network.
This rail expedition will conclude at Chengannur railway station, from which she plans to travel by road to Pampa, the base of the Sabarimala shrine.
It remains unconfirmed whether President Murmu will follow the traditional forest trekking path or opt for an alternative route to the temple.
This visit is part of her two-day tour of Kerala from October 22 to 24, marking her inaugural pilgrimage to the Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple since taking office in 2022.
The President’s darshan is scheduled for the final day of the Thulamasa pujas, which commenced on October 16.
The SPIC, produced by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, signifies a new era of motorized inspection vehicles for the Indian Railways.
Designed for high-level inspections, the stainless-steel coach includes dual driving cabins, air-conditioning, GPS-based information systems, onboard Wi-Fi, external CCTV cameras, and emergency and pantry facilities.
By removing the necessity for a separate locomotive, the SPIC boosts operational efficiency and allows engines to be used for standard passenger services.
Comprehensive security and logistical preparations are being coordinated with the Kerala Police, the Travancore Devaswom Board, and railway officials to ensure the President’s visit is smooth and the special train operates without issues.
Kerala Devaswom Minister V. N. Vasavan previously confirmed the President’s intention to visit Sabarimala for the conclusion of the Global Ayyappa Sangamam, explaining that an earlier planned visit was delayed due to national security considerations.
President Murmu’s ride in the state-of-the-art SPIC vehicle is expected to highlight the modernization efforts of the Indian Railways while adding a significant chapter to her itinerary in Kerala.
