Key Takeaways
Chandigarh, Jan 2 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann, expressed his support on Friday for increasing the number of international flights operating from Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport in Mohali. He emphasized that a broader range of overseas flights could greatly enhance economic activity, boost tourism, and attract more investment to the region.
This statement followed the announcement by Chandigarh International Airport Limited (CHIAL), which presented a cheque of Rs 19 crore as an interim dividend to the government. CM Mann noted this as a testament to the airport's consistent growth. He mentioned that improved air connectivity from Mohali would simplify access for entrepreneurs and traders, create job opportunities for the state's youth, and enhance Punjab's appeal as a competitive hub for international business and tourism.
During a discussion with CHIAL officials, Mann remarked that the ongoing success of Shaheed Bhagat Singh International Airport reflects a robust partnership between the Centre and Punjab governments. He reiterated that the Punjab government is dedicated to expanding international services from Mohali, which will connect this dynamic state to global destinations. This initiative aims to foster new job opportunities for the youth and provide a significant boost to Punjab’s economy.
The Chief Minister highlighted that enhancing flight options would facilitate movement for entrepreneurs, traders, and industrialists from both the region and around the world, thereby invigorating trade, commerce, and overall economic activity.
“By increasing the number of flights from this airport, we will benefit the local population and attract leading global entrepreneurs to invest significantly in the state. I'm optimistic that this will serve as a catalyst for industrial growth while positioning Punjab as the top choice for investment,” he stated.
In the meantime, the CHIAL management expressed their appreciation to the Chief Minister and the government for their ongoing support and cooperation, which have contributed to the airport's development and operational success. The board of CHIAL declared the dividend for 2025-26 on December 12, 2025.
