Chandigarh, June 3 (NationPress) - In a significant counter-espionage operation, the Counter-Intelligence Punjab, in collaboration with the Tarn Taran police, has apprehended an individual linked to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for disseminating confidential information regarding army movements during Operation Sindoor, as reported by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The suspect has been identified as Gagandeep Singh, also known as Gagan, hailing from Tarn Taran.
DGP Yadav indicated that initial investigations have shown that Gagandeep Singh maintained direct communication with Pakistan-based Khalistani supporter Gopal Singh Chawla for the last five years, through whom he was connected to Pakistani intelligence operatives (PIOs).
Further inquiries have disclosed that the accused was sharing classified information, including troop deployments, strategic locations, and army movements during Operation Sindoor, which posed a grave threat to national security, he stated.
The DGP mentioned that police teams recovered two mobile devices from the accused's possession, containing sensitive intelligence shared with the Pakistani intelligence operatives, alongside details of over 20 ISI contacts.
The accused also reportedly received payments from operatives through Indian channels.
The DGP noted that comprehensive financial and technical investigations are ongoing to uncover additional connections and determine the full extent of this espionage network.
Describing the operation, Senior Superintendent of Police, Tarn Taran, Abhimanyu Rana stated that acting on specific intelligence, a team led by SP, City, Riputapan Singh Sandhu and DSP Gurinderpal Singh Nagra arrested Gagandeep Singh near Muradpura in Tarn Taran and seized his mobile devices.
"During interrogation, the accused revealed that he was assigned by ISI handlers to collect sensitive information regarding deployments in the border area, including railway stations and Amritsar city. He was also receiving financial rewards for his espionage activities," said the SSP.
Further investigations are ongoing, and additional arrests are anticipated in the coming days, he added.
