Chandigarh, July 23 (NationPress) The Punjab Police, through two strategic operations in Amritsar, including a collaborative effort with the Border Security Force (BSF), successfully confiscated eight illegal firearms from four individuals linked to trans-border arms trafficking, announced Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
The seized items included five .30 caliber pistols and three 9 mm caliber pistols, along with their corresponding magazines.
First Information Reports (FIRs) have been filed at the Gharinda police station in Amritsar, with ongoing investigations aimed at unveiling the complete network and its connections.
In a noteworthy anti-smuggling operation, the BSF Punjab Frontier, in conjunction with Punjab Police, detained two Indian narco-smugglers in Ferozepur, seizing two motorcycles and a weighing scale.
Concurrently, two DJI Mavic 3 Classic drones carrying a total of 1,135 grams of heroin were intercepted at the Fazilka and Amritsar borders.
One of the drones was neutralized mid-air due to BSF's technical oversight, and glow sticks were attached to the narcotics packets for easier retrieval by the traffickers. These rapid, intelligence-driven actions underscore the BSF’s steadfast commitment to securing the Punjab border and countering narco-terrorism by eliminating Pakistani drone incursions.
Previously, in a significant crackdown, the BSF, in collaboration with the police's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in Amritsar, apprehended a father-son duo in Tarn Taran, confiscating two firearms, one of which lacked an upper slide, along with three magazines and two mobile devices.
Following disclosures from a previously arrested smuggler, BSF and Ferozepur Police recovered 391 grams of heroin concealed near a canal in Pojoke village.
These rapid and targeted measures reaffirm the unwavering resolve of security forces to thwart narco-terror activities and safeguard Punjab from the scourge of drugs and crime,” stated the border security force.
The BSF, tasked with protecting the 553-km-long and challenging India-Pakistan border in Punjab, remains vigilant around the clock, demonstrating relentless dedication while overcoming numerous obstacles, including adverse weather and rampant smuggling.
