New Delhi, Dec 1 (NationPress) The German Ambassador to India, Philipp Ackermann, conveyed optimism that the Russia-Ukraine conflict will feature in discussions during the upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to New Delhi, set for December 4-5.
Ackermann stated to IANS that Putin’s trip aims to facilitate a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the long-standing and historic relations between India and Russia.
He remarked, “Putin is here to meet the Prime Minister of India. While both nations share deep-rooted ties, I sincerely hope that the Indian hosts recognize that Russia is engaged in a war it initiated—a conflict in Ukraine that claims lives daily, and this must be addressed at some point.”
In anticipation of an event, the German diplomat added, “Today, we will convene for a gathering post-COP30 with Dr. Arunabh Ghosh, a highly respected figure in climate change discussions. His insights from COP30 will be invaluable.”
Putin's two-day State visit will coincide with the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit, where he and PM Modi will engage in dialogue. Additionally, President Droupadi Murmu will host a banquet in honor of the visiting President.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that this forthcoming visit will allow both nations to assess the progress in their bilateral relations, envision strengthening their “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership,” and exchange views on significant regional and global matters.
PM Modi has consistently emphasized the need for peace in the region, clearly outlining India’s position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. During a meeting with former US President Donald Trump at the White House in February, he stated that India advocates for peace.
“This is not an era of war but of dialogue and diplomacy,” PM Modi reiterated, affirming India's commitment to diplomatic resolutions. He has maintained open lines of communication with both President Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, advocating for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.
