Vadodara, May 29 (NationPress) A report has been filed at Kapurai Police Station following a break-in at the Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board's mechanical store located along National Highway 48 in Vadodara. Unidentified intruders have stolen and damaged PVC cables worth over Rs 1.5 lakh.

This incident took place at the mechanical sub-division office store situated near the Circuit House, between Ajwa Chowkdi and Waghodia Chowkdi. The facility, responsible for serving both Vadodara and Savli divisions, is monitored by two security personnel.

One of the guards noticed the back shutter of the storeroom ajar and quickly alerted the Additional Assistant Engineer. A subsequent examination by authorities revealed a thoroughly ransacked store. PVC cables valued at Rs 79,000 were reported stolen, while additional cables worth Rs 77,000 were found cut and damaged.

Initially, an application was submitted to the police soon after the incident. However, the formal complaint faced delays due to ongoing negotiations with the insurance company. Now, acting on a complaint by Deputy Executive Engineer Saurabh Patel, police have registered a case under the Prevention of Theft and Damage to Public Property Act against unknown offenders and have commenced legal proceedings.

Ongoing investigations are in process.

In a related incident, on May 23, train operations on the Ahmedabad Metro's East-West corridor faced temporary disruptions when unidentified miscreants stole nearly 500 meters of copper cable, leading to a significant power outage between Apparel Park and Old High Court stations.

An FIR was filed at Shahpur police station under pertinent sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, citing the theft of copper cables estimated to value Rs 9 lakh. This theft occurred when an unknown individual reportedly ascended the steel bridge between Shahpur and Old High Court stations, utilizing a sharp tool to sever the power supply cables.

The theft was discovered after the 5.45 a.m. service finished its run, but the subsequent train, scheduled at 6.15 a.m., halted at Shahpur station. Section engineer Ganesh Pathuraddi found that the copper cables mounted on the steel bridge brackets had been severed and stolen.

Authorities suspect that the perpetrator possesses technical expertise, considering the meticulous approach taken to remove the cables. A total of 20 copper cables, each around 25 meters long, were stolen, amounting to nearly 500 meters overall. With the current market rate for copper estimated at Rs 1,800 per meter, the financial loss is approximately Rs 9 lakh.

Point of View

I stand with the nation in condemning the theft of essential resources that serve our community. Such acts not only disrupt public services but also undermine the trust between citizens and authorities. It’s imperative that we ensure the safety of our public assets and address these crimes with the seriousness they deserve.
