New Delhi, March 15 (NationPress) On Sunday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, paid tribute to Kanshi Ram, the founder of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), on his birth anniversary. He described Kanshi Ram's relentless struggle and commitment towards uplifting the poor, Dalits, and marginalized communities as a source of inspiration for everyone.

Kanshi Ram, born in March 1934, is affectionately referred to by his followers as 'Manyavar' or 'Bahujan Nayak'. He is celebrated as a pivotal political figure and social reformer who shifted the focus of Dalit activism from mere social movements to a robust political campaign.

He played a significant role in revitalizing B.R. Ambedkar's vision in post-independence India, especially in northern regions like Uttar Pradesh, by advocating for political power as the essential means to achieve social justice and economic upliftment for marginalized groups.

In a post on X, Gandhi honored Kanshi Ram, stating, "His relentless struggle and steadfast commitment to the rights of the poor, Dalits, and marginalized communities serves as an inspiration for all. He firmly believed that the Constitution is the true power for Dalits and other disadvantaged classes. Today, that very Constitution is under threat -- those who swore allegiance to Baba Saheb's Constitution to gain power are now intent on undermining it."

"Without participation in power, justice cannot be achieved -- this is the essence of Kanshi Ram Ji's legacy. The dream of social justice will not remain unfulfilled. The Congress Party has consistently championed the participation and dignity of the Bahujan community and the defense of the Constitution -- both now and in the future," Gandhi remarked.

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge also took to X, expressing, "The esteemed Shri Kanshi Ram Ji, a great social reformer, undertook the historic mission of uniting the Dalit, deprived, exploited, and backward classes, ensuring they occupied a dignified position in Indian politics."

"His contributions to the quest for social justice and equality will always be a beacon of inspiration. On his birth anniversary, we honor him with deep respect," he added.

Congress Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra referred to Kanshi Ram as the "hero of the social justice ideology" and the "powerful voice" of Dalits, marginalized, and exploited communities.

In her homage, Priyanka stated, "Shri Kanshi Ram Ji elevated the constitutional principles of equality and justice through his thoughts and movements. His legacy will forever inspire us all."
