Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 12 (NationPress) Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, inaugurated the 'Run for Ambedkar, Run for the Constitution' marathon on Sunday, calling for unity against those whose primary objective is to undermine the Constitution.
Speaking to the crowd, LoP Gandhi stated, "The Constitution embodies the vision of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Ji. Without it, our perception of India would be fundamentally different."
He accused members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of attempting to erode the Constitution, asserting that the Congress party remains dedicated to upholding the principles of equality championed by B.R. Ambedkar.
Targeting the current BJP-led government, he remarked, "The RSS and BJP wish to abolish India's Constitution because they do not support equality for all citizens. Although BJP leaders may appear respectful towards Baba Saheb’s statue, their true intentions are to dismantle the Constitution."
Gandhi emphasized that those aligned with the RSS and BJP seek to obliterate the principles of both Baba Saheb Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution.
"No matter their words or actions, their ultimate goal is to destroy the Constitution," he noted, adding, "They do not desire equal treatment for all in India."
He further stated, "Even while bowing before Dr. Ambedkar’s statue, their true aim remains unchanged— to eradicate the Constitution. Our mission is to safeguard and enhance the Constitution, its ideals, and its message."
The event, organized by the All India Congress Committee Scheduled Caste Department in collaboration with its OBC Department, saw substantial participation from Congress leaders and supporters.
Rahul Gandhi expressed gratitude to all attendees who traveled from various regions to join the marathon and promote the message of the Constitution while honoring Baba Saheb Ambedkar.
Former Indian cricket captain and Congress figure Mohammad Azharuddin, now a Minister in the Telangana government, also addressed those present, stressing the importance of upholding constitutional values.
"This initiative aims to unite our people and pay tribute to Dr. Ambedkar, the architect of our Constitution. Today, some individuals are attempting to misrepresent and misinterpret the Constitution, offering distorted views. We must commit ourselves to defending and preserving it," he asserted.
Numerous senior Congress leaders, including Rajendra Pal Gautam, K. Raju, former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav, Deepender S. Hooda, Mamata Bhupesh, Tanuj Punia, Karamvir Boudh, and Rajkumar Verka, also attended the event.
