Imphal, February 14 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi remarked that the declaration of President's Rule in Manipur signifies a delayed acknowledgment by the BJP of their utter failure to govern the state.

In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi stated: "Now, PM Modi can no longer evade his direct accountability regarding Manipur. Has he finally resolved to visit the state and elucidate his strategy to restore peace and normalcy to the people of Manipur and India?"

Jairam Ramesh, Congress General Secretary (Communications), added in another post on X: "On February 10, the Congress was preparing a no-confidence motion. They were aware that the chief minister had lost the support of his own BJP and NDA associates."

Consequently, the chief minister resigned on February 9, as noted by Ramesh, who is also a member of Parliament.

He mentioned that the obligation to convene the subsequent session within six months of the prior one was breached on February 12.

"Today, they declared the imposition of President's Rule. We will consult with our party members and conduct internal meetings to deliberate on whether to advocate for midterm elections in Manipur. Nevertheless, our immediate request is for the Prime Minister to visit Manipur," Ramesh stated on Monday.

Meanwhile, the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF), a leading organization of Kuki-Zo tribals in Manipur, expressed their support for the imposition of President's Rule in the conflict-ridden state.

ITLF spokesperson Ginza Vualzong remarked that President's Rule is preferable to appointing a new chief minister.

"The Kuki-Zo community has lost trust in the Meitei; thus, a new Meitei chief minister would not be reassuring. President's Rule will provide hope to the Kuki-Zo and potentially lead us closer to a political solution," Vualzong stated.

He further added, "With President's Rule, I believe we can lay the foundation to halt the violence, creating a suitable atmosphere for political discussions."

The ITLF, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), and several other organizations representing the Kuki-Zo community, including ten tribal MLAs, have been advocating for separate governance or a Union Territory for the tribals in Manipur since the outbreak of ethnic violence.
