Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, March 5 (NationPress) The month-long "Puthuyuga Yatra", spearheaded by V.D. Satheesan, who serves as Kerala's Leader of Opposition, commenced from Kasaragod on February 6 and will reach its conclusion in the state capital on Saturday. This significant event will feature a large public rally led by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.
In announcing the final leg of the yatra, Satheesan noted that the concluding meeting will take place at Putharikandam Maidan, symbolizing the end of a journey that his Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) claims showcases a strong public outcry against the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.
The yatra saw enthusiastic participation from various community members, particularly the youth and women, alongside party workers, as they rallied together across different districts.
Satheesan emphasized that the march wasn't solely about criticizing the government; it also aimed to engage in meaningful dialogue regarding Kerala's development and the necessary transformations in vital sectors.
Throughout the journey, key topics such as healthcare, higher education, agriculture, infrastructure, and the state's economic prospects were extensively discussed.
Additionally, the UDF introduced vision documents focused on health and higher education as part of the initiative.
As per Satheesan, the leadership made a concerted effort to connect with diverse segments of society in every district, prioritizing ordinary citizens over prominent figures.
Participants included individuals affected by the endosulphan tragedy, families impacted by wildlife incidents, agricultural workers, anganwadi teachers, ASHA workers, lottery employees, pre-primary educators, KSRTC pensioners, and parents of individuals with disabilities, along with job aspirants awaiting appointments.
Satheesan mentioned that the UDF intends to compile district-specific documents to highlight the main issues faced in each area, which will assist in shaping the alliance's election manifesto and pinpointing priority areas should they come to power.
Furthermore, he criticized the state government for utilizing funds from the Information and Public Relations Department to circulate advertisements that showcased negative news from the previous decade under UDF governance.
Satheesan claimed that public resources were being misappropriated to support what he described as politically motivated propaganda.
In a notable turn of events, he asserted that numerous workers from the ruling Communist Party of India-Marxist have defected to the Congress and other UDF partners during the yatra, indicating rising dissatisfaction within the Left ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
