Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, March 15 (NationPress) Demonstrating confidence as the Assembly elections in Kerala approach, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) and seasoned Congress figure V.D. Satheesan announced on Sunday that the United Democratic Front (UDF) is set to achieve a significant victory, anticipating the acquisition of over 100 seats in the 140-member state Assembly.
Satheesan remarked that the Congress-led UDF coalition is energized by its recent electoral successes, highlighting the outcomes of various recent by-elections as well as the results of the 2024 Indian general election, where the UDF obtained a robust mandate in the state.
"Our UDF team is extremely confident about our upcoming win. In the latest by-elections, we triumphed with substantial margins, and in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, we emerged victoriously. These results unmistakably reflect the sentiments of the populace," stated the LoP.
Targeting the state administration led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Satheesan accused the ruling Left Democratic Front of neglecting public concerns while excessively spending on promotional campaigns.
"Citizens are weary of the way the Vijayan administration has squandered public funds on advertising while achieving little on the ground," he remarked.
Satheesan further asserted that whenever the state government faltered, it was the Opposition that intervened to highlight issues impacting the public and to support those in distress.
"Every time the state government made a mistake, the Opposition was there to stand with the citizens and voice their concerns," he stated, noting that this has reinforced the UDF's connection with voters throughout the state.
Regarding the candidate selection process for the forthcoming Assembly elections, Satheesan indicated that the Congress-led UDF leadership would finalize the list soon, following discussions with senior party officials.
Important discussions are set to take place in New Delhi on Monday.
The LoP also clarified that candidate selection would be strictly based on electoral viability rather than internal factional dynamics.
"Seats will not be allocated based on factions; the only criterion is the candidate's potential for winning," he declared.
