Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma launches ₹880 crore projects in Kekri, Ajmer
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma on Saturday, 11 July inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects worth approximately ₹880 crore in Kekri, Ajmer district, pledging accelerated infrastructure delivery under the state's 'double-engine government'. The event, attended by senior ministers and legislators, marked one of the largest single-day project launches in the region in recent memory.
Key Projects Launched
The centrepiece of the programme was the foundation stone for the Nasirabad-Sarwar-Kekri-Deoli (Phase-I) four-lane highway, a corridor expected to significantly cut travel time and boost freight movement across central Rajasthan. Sharma also laid stones for multiple MDR and rural road strengthening projects, cement concrete roads within Kekri Municipality, and new classrooms in government schools.
Additionally, the Chief Minister inaugurated the Government Integrated College building for Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, upgraded road links between Kekri, Sarwar, Nasirabad, Sawar, and Deoli, and commissioned culvert and road development works across the Kekri area. Sharma also planted a sapling at the Government College campus as part of the event's environmental conservation segment.
Rajasthan's Infrastructure Push: The Numbers
Sharma cited what he described as a sweeping statewide infrastructure drive, claiming that nearly 49,000 kilometres of road development has been undertaken over the past two-and-a-half years at a cost of more than ₹33,000 crore, with 18,000 kilometres of new roads constructed. He added that over 3,000 kilometres of roads have been upgraded under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
This comes amid the state government's stated alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Viksit Bharat' vision, which Sharma described as centred on world-class infrastructure and improved quality of life for ordinary citizens.
Water, Farmers, and Employment
Calling water Rajasthan's foremost priority, Sharma said the government is working to extend drinking water to every household through the Ram Jalsetu Link Project, the Yamuna Water Agreement, and the Dewas Project. Rajya Sabha MP Madan Rathore described the Yamuna water initiative as a 'historic' step that would benefit the Shekhawati region.
On agriculture, Sharma said the annual Kisan Samman Nidhi assistance has been raised from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000, with a stated target of increasing it further to ₹12,000. Farmers are also reportedly receiving daytime electricity supply, power subsidies, and interest-free loans of up to ₹1 lakh under the Rajasthan Sahkari Gopal Credit Card Loan Scheme. Under the Chief Minister Mangala Pashu Bima Yojana, over 22 lakh livestock insurance policies have reportedly been issued.
On employment, Sharma said the government has issued appointments for 1.78 lakh government posts, with recruitment for more than one lakh additional vacancies currently underway. He also claimed that 4.5 lakh youth have secured private-sector jobs, and that women are being economically empowered through 'Lakhpati Didi' initiatives.
What Other Leaders Said
Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari said Rajasthan is witnessing rapid development under the current dispensation, pointing to the Rajasthan Refinery as evidence of the state's industrial ambitions. Union Minister of State Bhagirath Chaudhary, state ministers, legislators, and local public representatives were also present at the event.
What's Next
The Nasirabad-Sarwar-Kekri-Deoli four-laning project is expected to proceed in phases, with Phase-I now formally initiated. Execution timelines and contractor details were not announced at the event. With state elections on the horizon and the government's infrastructure narrative central to its political positioning, delivery on these commitments will be closely watched.
