Jaipur, May 23 (NationPress) Rajasthan is currently enduring a severe heatwave, with extensive areas of this arid state facing extreme temperatures. Fortunately, localized thunderstorms in certain regions have offered some respite from the unyielding summer heat.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to continue in 16 districts on Friday, with no immediate relief anticipated. A red alert has been issued for Jaisalmer, Sri Ganganagar, and Bikaner, while thundershowers are expected to affect 19 districts, including Jaipur and Kota.

On Thursday, Sri Ganganagar reported the highest temperature of 47.3 degrees Celsius, exceeding the normal by 4.8 degrees. Jodhpur recorded the highest minimum temperature at 31.7 degrees Celsius. Seven cities across Rajasthan experienced temperatures surpassing 45 degrees Celsius, with Ganganagar hitting over 47 degrees Celsius for the second day in a row.

In some areas, temperatures saw a slight decrease. Jaipur’s maximum temperature fell by 2 degrees Celsius to 42.8 degrees Celsius. Alwar's temperature dropped by 5 degrees to 40 degrees Celsius, while Chittorgarh recorded 42.4 degrees, Udaipur at 38.3 degrees, and Bhilwara at 41.5 degrees Celsius.

The afternoon thunderstorms on Thursday brought a change in the weather across Jhalawar, Baran, Bundi, Kota, Chittorgarh, and Bhilwara. Strong winds and rainfall provided much-needed relief from the oppressive heat.

In a tragic incident, heavy rainfall in the Sadas area of Chittorgarh resulted in the collapse of a house wall. This unfortunate event led to the deaths of Shaari alias Shanti (50), wife of Magana Bhil, and Suraj (7), son of Suresh Bhil. Raju alias Ratan (12), son of Kailash Bhil, sustained serious injuries. All victims were taken to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Bhilwara, where medical personnel pronounced Shaari and Suraj dead.

A sudden storm around 5:30 p.m. in Bhilwara was followed by rain, which brought much-needed relief from the intense heat and humidity. However, strong winds also caused trees to fall in several areas, with rainfall continuing in parts of the district into the evening. Shahpura in Bhilwara recorded the highest rainfall of 33 mm over the last 24 hours, as reported by officials.
