Jaipur, April 3 (NationPress) Tensions erupted at Rajasthan University on Friday as NSUI activists engaged with police during demonstrations against a seminar planned on campus, which they claimed was intended to advance RSS ideology.

The situation intensified when demonstrators attempted to breach the barricades established at the university's main entrance. A clash ensued after NSUI members organized a protest against the seminar set to take place in the Humanities Auditorium, under the auspices of the Marudhara Nari Sangathan.

The protest rapidly escalated into confrontations with law enforcement as students sought to push through the barricades. The police had fortified the university's main gate and deployed substantial security measures, including riot control units, to avert any disturbances.

Despite these precautions, NSUI members scaled the barricades and chanted slogans, resulting in scuffles with security forces. The NSUI has called for the immediate cancellation of the seminar, asserting that it is linked to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and designed to promote a particular ideology on campus.

NSUI leader Amardeep Parihar emphasized that universities must remain neutral educational spaces, accusing such events of disrupting the academic atmosphere.

In contrast, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has expressed support for the seminar, maintaining that it focuses on women's dignity and empowerment.

ABVP representatives dismissed the accusations as politically charged, contending that hosting events representing diverse ideologies is integral to democratic practices.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Alpana Kateja clarified that the auditorium was rented to a women’s group, and the institution has no formal ties to the RSS regarding the event.

Previously, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully remarked, “There are ongoing attempts to impose RSS ideology on higher education establishments and to manipulate them for its objectives. This event is being organized at the University of Rajasthan to further their ideological agenda, akin to previous disruptions of the academic environment, such as the Shastra Pooja performed on campus.”

“Rather than focusing on elevating Rajasthan University to a premier research institution and acquiring new patents, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government is preoccupied with undermining the education sector and catering to the RSS,” he stated.

As both student factions remain at odds, the campus is currently under stringent security measures at the time of this report.

Point of View

This incident reflects a growing polarization within educational institutions, highlighting the contentious intersection of ideology and academia. The ongoing conflict underscores the necessity for universities to maintain spaces free from political influence to foster an unbiased educational environment.
