Jaipur, Jan 20 (NationPress) After the claims and objections phase for the Special Summary Revision (SIR) of Rajasthan's electoral rolls concluded, the Election Department has unveiled the final aggregated statistics.
Official records indicate that there were applications to remove 1,39,674 names from the voter registry, while claims were made to include 10,92,959 new voters. The majority of these applications came from ordinary citizens, with individuals submitting requests to eliminate 1,17,691 names, whereas claims for adding 10,92,959 names were accepted following the draft electoral roll's release.
Additionally, Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from various political parties contributed to the applications: The BJP's 2,316 BLAs sought the removal of 21,971 names, while they also filed claims to include 316 names. In contrast, 11 BLAs from Congress claimed to add 185 names and filed requests to remove 12 names.
Initially set for January 15, the deadline for submitting claims and objections was extended to January 19. A large volume of applications poured in during this extended timeframe.
This extension sparked a political uproar, with Congress firmly opposing the decision. Senior figures like State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of the Opposition Tikaram Jully, and former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot alleged irregularities within the process.
Congress leaders accused the Election Commission of aligning with the BJP, asserting that numerous applications were submitted to disenfranchise voters who were perceived as Congress supporters. The party organized protests across various districts, labeling the initiative a “well-planned conspiracy.”
The controversy escalated when the BJP reportedly filed thousands of forms at Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) offices shortly before the deadline extension. Congress representatives claimed that many of these applications lacked the necessary BLA signatures and identification numbers, prompting concerns over their legitimacy.
On Monday, Govind Singh Dotasra and Tikaram Jully held a press conference at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, alleging that these irregularities were part of a larger conspiracy that unfolded after Union Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Rajasthan.
