Jaipur, Sep 8 (NationPress) The Rajasthan Assembly has officially approved the Rajasthan Institute of Medical Sciences, Jaipur Bill, 2025 through a voice vote on Monday.
Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa stated that this institute will offer super-speciality medical services of international standards, thereby creating a unique identity for Rajasthan in the healthcare sector.
He explained that RIMS will be structured as a centre of excellence similar to AIIMS, focusing on the integration of treatment, research, and medical education.
Bairwa highlighted that in the 2024–25 Budget, the state government earmarked funds for the enhancement of the Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) into RIMS, with a planned investment of Rs 750 crore in phases.
The institute will operate as an independent entity and a university, authorized to grant degrees, diplomas, and other certifications as per the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.
RIMS plans to offer advanced services in areas such as cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, urology, plastic surgery, endocrinology, nephrology, cardiothoracic and vascular surgery, as well as transplant units.
Furthermore, it will enhance quaternary referral hospital services, postgraduate education in modern medicine and AYUSH, and conduct research addressing state-specific health challenges. Teacher training and innovation will be core to its objectives.
The Chief Secretary will act as the Chairman of RIMS, supported by senior officials from the Medical Education and Finance departments, the Vice Chancellor of RUHS, and distinguished medical and academic leaders from prestigious institutions such as AIIMS, PGIMER Chandigarh, JIPMER Puducherry, IISc Bengaluru, IIT Jodhpur, IIM Udaipur, IIHMR Jaipur, and Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai. A Governing Body will also be formed for policy and oversight.
An initial budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for infrastructure, alongside a recurring provision of Rs 5 crore annually for operational costs. A dedicated financial fund and committee will be established to guarantee transparency.
The affiliated colleges of RUHS will be merged under RIMS, while current RUHS employees will have the option to choose between state government service and RIMS positions. Dr. Bairwa emphasized that RIMS will partner with global institutions for research and international collaboration.
“The establishment of RIMS will not only set new standards in healthcare for Rajasthan but also position the state as a hub for medical tourism,” he remarked.
