Thiruvananthapuram, April 15 (NationPress) Newly appointed Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated on Tuesday that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan must step down immediately due to corruption allegations against his daughter, Veena Vijayan, and Chief Principal Secretary K.M. Abraham.
Chandrasekhar, who previously served as a Union Minister in the second Narendra Modi cabinet, was appointed as the state president of the BJP last month.
His remarks followed the Kerala High Court's directive for a CBI investigation into K.M. Abraham.
Abraham, who is the Chief Principal Secretary to CM Vijayan and a former Chief Secretary, has stated that he will allow the Chief Minister to decide whether he should remain in his position.
During an interview with IANS, Chandrasekhar criticized the CPI(M) government, asserting that it has surpassed previous Congress administrations in the realm of corruption.
“From the gold smuggling scandal involving top officials to the disproportionate assets case concerning Chief Principal Secretary K.M. Abraham, and now the indictment of the CM’s daughter, Veena Vijayan, in a monthly payout scheme, corruption is deeply rooted at the highest levels. Both the CPI(M) and Congress have entrenched corruption and nepotism within Kerala’s political landscape,” stated Chandrasekhar, who ran a challenging campaign against three-time sitting Thiruvananthapuram MP Shashi Tharoor in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
“Given the allegations against his daughter and chief principal secretary, the Chief Minister should resign without delay. What we need is not corrupt governance but a governance model that fosters opportunities for everyone in a Viksit Keralam,” emphasized Chandrasekhar.
Veena Vijayan is also under scrutiny as the SFIO has revealed that her IT firm allegedly received approximately Rs 2.70 crore monthly from the CMRL for sanctioning mining activities.
The SFIO has submitted a charge sheet against her and the CMRL, and a court in Kochi handling economic offenses will soon issue summons to the accused parties in this matter.
