Thiruvananthapuram, April 14 (NationPress) Just three days after the Kerala High Court mandated a CBI investigation into K.M. Abraham -- the Chief Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and former Chief Secretary -- the distinguished bureaucrat stated on Monday that he would defer to the Chief Minister’s judgment regarding his continuation in office.
In a Vishu message addressed to the employees of the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), where he holds the CEO position, Abraham responded to the increasing speculation surrounding his role.
“In recent days, many well-intentioned individuals have inquired if I would contemplate resigning from my posts as Chief Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister and CEO of KIIFB,” he noted, adding, “I have given this considerable thought -- not from fear or obligation, but from a deep-seated commitment to the principles I’ve maintained throughout my public career.”
He remarked that resigning might be perceived by some as taking the moral high ground, but doing so at this juncture would signify capitulation to what he termed an “orchestrated attack” by those he had previously brought to justice.
“After careful consideration, I have resolved to leave the decision regarding my tenure entirely to the Chief Minister, who is also the Chairman of KIIFB. I have witnessed his administrative skills, personal integrity, and sense of justice up close for over a decade. Whatever his decision may be, I will accept it with humility and gratitude,” Abraham expressed.
He also acknowledged the personal strain of the situation. “My wife and I, as senior citizens nearing our seventies, are acutely aware of the emotional and physical challenges stemming from a prolonged investigation. Nevertheless, I will confront it with the same bravery that has guided me throughout my 45 years of public service.”
Abraham reiterated his dedication to transparency and integrity. “I assure each one of you -- with the utmost sincerity -- that I have consistently acted in the public interest. No investigation can diminish that legacy. Let us not permit the current turbulence to undermine our faith in what we have collectively built.”
The CBI investigation was initiated based on a petition lodged by public activist Joemon Puthenpurackal. Abraham has accused him of pursuing a personal vendetta, stating that he had previously taken action against the activist.
Abraham, 66, retired as Chief Secretary in December 2017 and has remained a close associate of CM Vijayan.
