New Delhi, Aug 9 (NationPress) Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praised both public and private sector manufacturers on Saturday for achieving a historic milestone in Defence production, reaching an impressive ₹1.50 lakh crore for the Financial Year (FY) 2024-25.
In a message shared on X, the Defence Minister remarked, “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, India’s Defence production has reached unprecedented heights!”
“The annual Defence production has surged to a remarkable total of ₹1,50,590 crore in FY 2024-25. This signifies a strong 18 percent growth over the last fiscal year’s output of ₹1.27 lakh crore, and an astonishing 90 percent increase since FY 2019-20, when the figure was ₹79,071 crore,” the Defence Minister noted.
He credited the collaborative efforts of both the public and private sectors for this achievement.
“I applaud the joint efforts of the Department of Defence Production and all stakeholders, including DPSUs, public sector manufacturers, and the private industry, for reaching this significant milestone. This growth trajectory clearly reflects the strengthening of India’s Defence industrial base,” he stated on X.
Defence Minister Singh’s commendation follows the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completing 138 projects over the past three years.
The organisation finalized 30 projects between January 1, 2025, and July, at a cost of ₹1,859 crore. Additionally, 60 projects were completed in the 2024 calendar year for a total of ₹3,989 crore, as reported by the Defence Ministry.
Previously, Minister of State Sanjay Seth mentioned that DRDO, industry, and academic institutes are collaborating to carry out Directed Research and convert research into technology to fortify future national safety and security needs.
He also highlighted the launch of a Long Term Directed Research Policy aimed at engaging startups, MSMEs, and private industry, which offers guidelines for industry involvement in DRDO Industry Academia Centre of Excellence projects through Transfer of Technology or for Technology Enhancement.
