New Delhi, Aug 18 (NationPress) Defence Minister Rajnath Singh criticized the Opposition on Monday for obstructing a crucial discussion in Parliament regarding Indian astronaut Subhanshu Shukla’s remarkable space journey, calling their actions ‘extremely unfortunate’.
The Minister's remarks came shortly after the Lower House, which was scheduled to focus on Group Captain Subhanshu Shukla’s space achievements, was adjourned due to ongoing turmoil instigated by the Opposition parties.
In a post on X, he expressed his disappointment, stating, “The way the opposition generated chaos in the House and prevented it from functioning is extremely unfortunate.”
He continued, “Their obstructive behavior today was disheartening. The Opposition had the opportunity to engage in the discussion and offer valuable insights, critiques, and suggestions for India’s space endeavors.”
The session aimed to honor Group Captain Subhanshu Shukla and discuss “India’s Space Program and Its Role in Viksit Bharat 2047”, but got overshadowed by the disruptive actions of the Opposition.
The proceedings were marred by intense sloganeering and protests from opposition members, who disrupted the discussions by entering the well of the House.
Addressing the Opposition’s “disruptive tactics”, the Union Minister emphasized that subjects like space are pivotal to India’s scientific and strategic vision in the 21st century and urged them to transcend political divides on such critical national issues.
Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju called on the Congress and other opposition parties to set aside politics and participate in the special discussion regarding the Indian astronaut’s 18-day mission aboard the ISS and his accomplishments. Unfortunately, his appeal was largely ignored as members of the INDIA Bloc did not show interest in the discussion.
