Actor Ram Kapoor made a candid and humour-laced revelation at the launch event of reality show Lock Upp Season 2 in Mumbai on 23 June, disclosing an unexpectedly personal anecdote involving fellow actor Riteish Deshmukh — one that left the audience and hosts in stitches.

Why Ram Kapoor Almost Said No

Kapoor admitted he had been deeply reluctant to join the show and that his family shared those reservations. He revealed that his children confronted him on Father's Day — the day before the launch — asking why he had agreed to participate. 'For the first time, they asked me this question,' he noted, underscoring how out-of-character the decision felt even within his own household.

Kapoor described four decisive 'signs' that ultimately convinced him to sign on. The first, he said, was a call from a casting professional he described as 'a very respected and close friend,' someone who, in his words, would never ordinarily have approached him with such an offer. He had gone to that meeting fully intending to decline — but left with a different answer after being impressed by the pitch from two individuals he met there.

The third sign, he said with a grin, was the identity of the show's hosts themselves. Pointing at Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, he remarked that a country of India's size would have this particular show fronted by only these two — people with whom he shared unusually candid history.

The Riteish Deshmukh Revelation

It was at this point that Kapoor dropped the evening's most talked-about moment. He told the audience that he, Farah Khan, and filmmaker Sajid Khan are 'chaddi buddies' — a colloquial term for childhood or long-standing close friends. He then turned to Riteish Deshmukh and added that Deshmukh had, on one occasion, 'seen him without a chaddi (innerwear),' directly asking Deshmukh to confirm.

Farah Khan, visibly taken aback, turned to Deshmukh and asked — in Hindi — whether this was 'sach (truth) or sazaa (punishment).' Deshmukh confirmed it was true, quipping: 'This is true, but the biggest punishment of my life is that I have seen Ram without his underwear.'
