Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on 15 August 2025 hoisted the Tricolour at Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi, marking the 80th Independence Day with a call to honour the sacrifices of India's freedom fighters and a pledge to accelerate development across the capital.

Key Remarks at the Ceremony

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Gupta said the occasion was far more than a national celebration. 'Today's sacred day is not merely a national festival but it is an occasion to remember the extraordinary courage, sacrifice and dedication of countless brave souls who gave everything and laid the glorious foundation of an independent India,' she said.

She added that the Tricolour served as both a symbol of India's past and a continuing commitment to its future. 'This fluttering Tricolour is not only a symbol of our glorious past but also a pledge towards our bright future. It constantly reminds us that freedom is not merely a right but also a continuing responsibility towards nation-building,' Gupta said.

Governance Agenda: From Challenges to Transformation

The Chief Minister acknowledged that her government had inherited significant administrative challenges — including delayed projects and incomplete schemes — when it assumed office. She said the administration had chosen to treat these as opportunities rather than obstacles.

'Our government accepted these challenges as opportunities for transformation and decided from the very first day to move forward with a result-oriented approach towards finding solutions,' she said. Gupta emphasised that governance under her watch had moved beyond paperwork. 'We have not confined governance to registers. We have given priority to development work,' she said.

She credited coordination with the Centre under Prime Minister Narendra Modi for enabling faster project execution. 'Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there is coordination between agencies and the Delhi government,' Gupta said, adding that several previously stalled schemes were now being actively implemented.

Vision for Delhi: Clean, Modern, Self-Reliant

Following the ceremony, Gupta shared photographs from the celebrations on social media platform X, outlining her administration's roadmap. 'Today, on this proud occasion, we placed before the people of Delhi the resolve for a developed Delhi and the clear direction for the coming years. Our goal is to build a capital that is clean, modern, and self-reliant, where women's power is empowered, new opportunities are available for the youth, good governance reaches every citizen, and our culture and heritage advance alongside development,' she wrote.

She also framed Delhi's role in the national development story. 'In the journey towards a developed India, Delhi will play a leading role with its full potential, this is the resolve with which we are continuously moving forward,' she said, signing off with 'Jai Hind.'
