Telangana CM Revanth Reddy orders war-footing push on Palamuru-Rangareddy irrigation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, 19 May directed officials to complete land acquisition for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project on a war footing, signalling urgency over a scheme that has long been stalled in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district. The directive came during a high-level meeting with district ministers and MLAs at the MCRHRD institute in Hyderabad.
Key Directives from the Chief Minister
Revanth Reddy instructed district ministers to conduct regular reviews of all irrigation projects in coordination with concerned district officials and to monitor progress continuously. He also assured immediate release of funds required for land acquisition, with the Chief Minister's Office stating that pending bills would be settled without delay.
According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Revanth Reddy stated that measures will be taken to ensure payments related to land acquisition are made promptly, removing a long-standing bottleneck that has slowed project execution.
Palamuru-Rangareddy: Completion Target Set for December 2027
Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had earlier this month announced that the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme would be completed by December 2027. He also stated that all pending irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district would be taken up on a fast-track basis. Tuesday's meeting reinforced that commitment at the highest political level.
The Palamuru-Rangareddy project, designed to lift water from the Krishna river to drought-prone areas of southern Telangana, has faced repeated delays over funding disputes and land acquisition hurdles since its conception under the previous administration.
Who Attended the Meeting
The meeting was attended by Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and Vakiti Srihari, government whip Yennam Srinivas Reddy, and MLAs including Kasireddy Narayana Reddy, G. Madhusudhan Reddy, Tudi Megha Reddy, Dr Kuchukulla Rajesh Reddy, Dr Chikkudu Vamshi Krishna, Veerlapalli Shankaraiah, and Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy. Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao was also present.
Cabinet Meeting Scheduled for 21 May
Separately, the 33rd Council of Ministers meeting has been scheduled for 3 pm on 21 May at the Cabinet Meeting Hall in the Dr B. R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat. The Chief Secretary has asked all Special Chief Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Secretaries to submit items approved in circulation for the cabinet's consideration and to remain available at headquarters during the session.
With funds assured at the top level and a December 2027 deadline publicly committed, the pressure on district machinery to deliver on land acquisition has now become a test of the Revanth Reddy government's infrastructure credibility.
