New Delhi, Aug 7 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, met with the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday to discuss the ongoing protest seeking Presidential approval for two legislative Bills aimed at securing 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes.
During the meeting, he urged Gandhi and Kharge to apply pressure on the Central Government to facilitate the approval of these Bills, which aim to provide 42 percent reservation in education, employment, and local governance for Backward Classes.
On Wednesday, the Chief Minister led a dharna at Jantar Mantar and later met Gandhi at his residence on Thursday night.
He informed Gandhi that he, along with ministers, MPs, MLAs, and other leaders, had waited all day for an audience with President Droupadi Murmu, but received no response regarding their request for an appointment.
The meeting took place during a dinner hosted by Gandhi for leaders of the INDIA bloc, where Revanth Reddy shared concerns about alleged electoral malpractices by the BJP.
Post-meeting, Revanth Reddy took to social media to commend Gandhi, referring to him as the future of India. He stated, “Gandhi has shown remarkable courage in voicing the truth, unveiling the dubious tactics of PM Modi and HM Shah. The BJP has resorted to various underhanded methods to undermine the people's mandate, a situation that tarnishes the integrity of the nation. Yet, Gandhi remains a beacon of hope for our democracy.”
Earlier, the Chief Minister also briefed Mallikarjun Kharge about their protest.
During a press conference alongside several ministers and TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Revanth Reddy criticized Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for the President's refusal to grant them an appointment. He expressed disappointment that their Cabinet had waited for a response but received none.
He emphasized their visit to Delhi was aimed at securing 42 percent reservation for Backward Classes, yet the Central Government showed a lack of cooperation throughout the three-day effort.
Revanth Reddy accused the BJP of delaying the reservation for Backward Classes under the guise of Muslim reservation issues and challenged them to legislate against it.
He also criticized the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for not participating in the dharna and questioned their silence on the BJP's stalling of the Bills.
According to him, both the BJP and BRS are impeding the progress of the BC reservation Bills, declaring, “These two parties risk being seen as betrayers of Backward Classes in Telangana.”
He warned the BJP that their inaction on the Bills could have severe repercussions and stated that the Congress party is strategizing its next steps to ensure accountability from both the BJP and BRS.
