Hyderabad, March 17 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy, on Monday sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting a meeting with him alongside leaders from all political parties to discuss increasing reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) to 42 per cent in education, employment, and elections for rural and urban local bodies.

The Chief Minister is seeking an appointment to meet the Prime Minister with representatives from Congress, BJP, AIMIM, and CPI.

This request comes shortly after the Telangana Assembly unanimously approved two Bills aimed at enhancing reservations for BCs.

The Telangana Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Reservation of Seats in Educational Institutions and of Appointments or Posts in Services Under the State) Bill 2025 and The Telangana Backward Classes (Reservation of Seats in Rural and Urban Local Bodies) Bill 2025 were both adopted by the Assembly.

Since raising BC reservations to 42 per cent would exceed the 50 per cent limit set by the Supreme Court for overall quotas, these Bills require approval from the Centre.

The Chief Minister previously informed the Assembly that he intends to lead an all-party delegation to meet with Prime Minister Modi to secure the Centre’s approval.

He urged Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay, as well as BJP floor leader A. Maheshwar Reddy, to take the lead in arranging the meeting with the Prime Minister.

“We should also ask Rahul Gandhi to advocate for this matter in Parliament. I am assigning TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud the task of requesting a meeting with Rahul Gandhi soon,” he stated.

He emphasized that it is crucial for everyone to support the BC Bill in Parliament. “We will not stop until we achieve 42 per cent reservation for BCs,” he reiterated, affirming that the Congress government is dedicated to the Kamareddy Declaration.

While expressing support for the Bills, the main opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), raised concerns regarding the accuracy of the recent caste survey conducted in the state.

The Chief Minister assured the Assembly that the caste survey is 100 per cent accurate. He recalled Rahul Gandhi’s promise that if the Congress came to power, it would raise reservations for Backward Classes to 42 per cent. He noted that the Congress initiated steps for the caste survey immediately upon taking office.

Later, the Chief Minister took to ‘X’ to announce that Telangana is proud to spearhead a social revolution in India.

“I am honored to declare that the long-standing demand of subaltern groups since Indian Independence, the plea of our brothers and sisters from the Backward Castes to be counted and recognized in an official census, has finally been fulfilled,” he stated.

“Today, as the Leader of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Chief Minister, I solemnly declare that based on the most scientific, methodically rigorous, and painstaking efforts of our people, we can affirm that the OBCs population in Telangana is 56.36 per cent,” the post reads.

“We are committed to ensuring 42 per cent reservations for this group across all areas of life - education, jobs, employment, and political representation. Let’s stand on the right side of history and champion this historic initiative,” he added.
