Rewa Collector's surprise inspection exposes mass absenteeism at Panchayat office

Rewa district Collector Narendra Kumar Suryavanshi on Wednesday, 29 April conducted a surprise inspection at the district Panchayat office in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, finding the premises nearly empty at 10.05 a.m. with only four employees present. More than two dozen staff members were subsequently caught arriving late and were stopped at the office gate, prompting Suryavanshi to order disciplinary proceedings against habitual absentees.

What the Inspection Revealed

When the Collector arrived, the district Panchayat office was functioning at a fraction of its capacity. As the inspection progressed, over 24 staff members were seen trickling in well past the scheduled reporting time and were intercepted at the gate. Senior officials were directed to record the names of all latecomers and initiate action against those absent without valid reasons.

Suryavanshi made clear that the problem was not isolated. Officials described the pattern as habitual, with employees routinely flouting government attendance regulations despite living a short commute from the workplace.

What the Collector Said

Expressing strong displeasure, Suryavanshi addressed the errant staff directly.
