Is There Growing Internal Dissent Within the Yadav Family Following Rohini Acharya's Social Media Post?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) A cryptic social media post by Rohini Acharya, the daughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, has sparked intense political responses. On Saturday, both the Janata Dal United (JD-U) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) claimed that increasing internal discord within the Yadav family could soon escalate into a public dispute.
The uproar began after Rohini Acharya posted a strongly worded message on social media, which many interpret as a veiled criticism of her brother, Tejashwi Yadav, a leader in the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
In her post, she implied that to dismantle a “great legacy,” no outsiders are needed; the actions of one’s own kin are sufficient.
In a Facebook update, Rohini Acharya expressed that it is “shocking when those who owe their identity and existence to a legacy themselves try to erase its symbols.”
She also cautioned that when wisdom is clouded and arrogance prevails, destructive forces may start to influence a person’s thoughts and decisions.
These comments have fueled speculation regarding discord within the RJD’s leading family.
In an interview with IANS, JD-U National Spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan Prasad stated, “There is growing internal dissent within Lalu Yadav’s family, which is turning into an open conflict.” He noted that recent developments indicate clear opposition to Tejashwi Yadav, as well as to his close associates, Sanjay Yadav and Rameez Neemat. A significant split within the Yadav family cannot be dismissed, and given that it is a family-oriented party, this will likely affect the organization’s structure.
JD-U MLA Pappu Verma remarked, “Rohini Acharya is a woman, a young girl, a daughter. We won’t comment on her personally, but what she has written is correct. I will not comment more as it is their (Yadav family's) personal matter.”
Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav added, “No one is breaking her (Rohini Acharya's) house; their own (RJD) people are breaking the house. It's their personal matter, and I will not comment more.”
This controversy arises following a significant electoral defeat for the RJD in the recent Bihar Assembly elections.
The RJD secured only 25 seats out of over 140 contested, while the NDA achieved a substantial majority.
The BJP and JD-U won 89 and 85 seats respectively, with the NDA surpassing the 200-seat threshold in the 243-member Assembly.
The RJD’s allies also performed poorly, with Congress winning just six seats and the Left parties having minimal influence.
The newly established Jan Suraaj Party, led by Prashant Kishor, failed to gain any seats.
Following the overwhelming defeat, Rohini Acharya announced her departure from politics and severed ties with her family.
In an emotional message, she claimed she faced abuse, humiliation, and even assault from her brother Tejashwi Yadav and his close aide, RJD MP Sanjay Yadav, after questioning the party’s poor electoral performance.
