RPF Increases Operations in Northeast, Seizes Contraband Worth Over Rs 1.93 Crore

Guwahati, March 29 (NationPress) The Railway Protection Force (RPF) under the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has intensified its vigilance and operational capabilities through a series of effective interventions across its area of responsibility.
NFR Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Kapinjal Kishore Sharma reported that the operations executed on March 24 included railway stations and trains at Guwahati, Kamakhya, Hojai, New Bongaigaon (all in Assam), Agartala (Tripura), Aluabari and New Jalpaiguri (both in West Bengal), and Samsi (in Bihar).
In a noteworthy humanitarian initiative, RPF personnel at Guwahati rescued a minor boy from a train at Guwahati Railway Station. The child was safely entrusted to the Child Welfare Committee via Railway Childline for appropriate care, protection, and rehabilitation, Sharma stated.
In another significant operation, a team from the Crime Intelligence Branch (CIB) of Katihar, led by the RPF, apprehended a tout at Samsi Railway Station. The suspect was discovered with 14 illegal e-tickets valued at over Rs 61,700, delivering a substantial blow to illicit ticketing activities.
The CPRO mentioned that RPF teams also seized various illegal items, including ganja and liquor, and apprehended individuals involved in illegal arms possession and drugging incidents, further emphasizing their proactive approach to maintaining law and order.
Throughout March (up to March 26), the RPF of NFR conducted extensive enforcement operations across several stations and trains, yielding significant outcomes. A total of 268.82 kg of dry ganja was confiscated, along with cigarettes, cough syrup, heroin, 1,200 kg of poppy seeds, and liquor. The total estimated value of these seized drugs exceeds Rs 1.91 crore.
During these operations, 37 individuals were apprehended or arrested. Additionally, Rs 7.60 lakh in cash was recovered in one instance.
Sharma noted that in cases related to arms and ammunition, the RPF seized one pistol, two magazines, and two live cartridges, reaffirming its commitment to combat illegal weapon possession on railway premises.
In incidents of theft, eight suspects were apprehended, leading to the recovery of seven mobile phones and one trolley bag, collectively valued at Rs 86,000. Furthermore, actions against illegal ticketing activities resulted in the arrest of two touts with 16 tickets worth Rs 63,668.
These cumulative efforts have brought the overall recovery and seizures to over Rs 1.93 crore.
The ongoing and coordinated actions underscore the RPF's commitment under NFR to ensure passenger safety, curb unlawful activities, and maintain a secure and passenger-friendly railway environment. Continuous vigilance and proactive enforcement measures are being undertaken to further enhance security across railway premises, the NFR CPRO emphasized.
