On Sunday, acting on specific intelligence, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) from the Guwahati Zonal Unit intercepted a truck in Khatkhati, Assam, in coordination with the 155 Battalion of the CRPF.
A detailed search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of 524.9 kilograms of Ganja, estimated to hold a value of approximately Rs 2.6 crore, according to a statement from the official.
The illegal substance had been hidden in a specially designed compartment within the truck to avoid detection, the report added.
Authorities have arrested two individuals linked to this drug haul.
Initial investigations suggest that the source of this contraband is the forest regions of Senapati district in Manipur, while its intended destination was Birbhum district in West Bengal.
This incident marks the second significant seizure by the NCB's Guwahati Zonal Unit in less than a month.
Previously, on February 7, the NCB Guwahati Zonal Unit, with assistance from the 147 BN CRPF, confiscated 11.7 kg of Methamphetamine near Silchar, Assam, which was valued at approximately Rs 9.5 crore in the illegal market.
In light of the upcoming Assembly Elections in Assam and West Bengal, the NCB Guwahati Zonal Unit has escalated its operations and monitoring of drug trafficking networks in the area.
In just two months, the NCB North Eastern Region has seized drugs worth Rs 105 crore in the illegal drug market. The total number of cases registered stands at 21, with 40 arrests made. The drugs confiscated include Ganja 1036 kg, Meth 72.5 kg, Heroin 17 kg, Morphine 6.25 kg, and CBCS 13,816 bottles.
