What Led to the Resignation of RPSC Member Sangeeta Arya?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Nov 28 (NationPress) A member of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC), Sangeeta Arya, has officially stepped down from her role, as reported by officials on Friday.
Arya was set to remain in her position until October 2026, but her name has emerged in the midst of ongoing probes into several paper leak incidents.
On November 10, she was summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to its Jaipur office for questioning regarding the alleged paper leak in the Executive Officer (EO) recruitment examination.
She requested a 15-day delay, citing her ongoing participation in interview processes. Reports indicate that this was not the first instance the ACB had reached out to her concerning this issue.
In the previous year, an ACB team conducted a search at Arya’s home and purportedly reviewed documents for nearly two hours. The agency has not released specific details regarding the case that prompted the search. Her resignation marks the second from the RPSC in recent months.
Arya is also known as the spouse of former Rajasthan Chief Secretary Niranjan Arya.
Previously, Arya had engaged in political activities, running for the Sojat Assembly seat on a Congress ticket, though she was not successful. Her resignation follows closely after the departure of another RPSC member, Manju Sharma, in September.
Sharma’s resignation was accepted by the Governor after the Rajasthan High Court made critical remarks about the accountability and functioning of commission members.
The sequence of resignations has reignited concerns over the transparency, integrity, and future recruitment processes of the Commission, especially as public examinations in Rajasthan face heightened scrutiny.
During the 2021 Sub-Inspector Recruitment Exam paper leak case, the Rajasthan High Court expressed serious concerns, questioning the roles of six members, including the former RPSC Chairman, Sanjay Kshotriya, whose term has now concluded. Dr. Manju has resigned, one member has passed away, and another, Babulal Katara, has been incarcerated for a prolonged period in relation to the paper leak incident.
Sangeeta Arya was among those members whose performance was scrutinized and commented on by the High Court.
