Key Takeaways
Khunti (Jharkhand), March 26 (NationPress) In a significant blow to the narcotics trade in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, police have made a notable seizure for the second day in a row on Thursday.
Following a tip-off, a police team executed a raid in the Arki police station jurisdiction, uncovering a substantial stash of illegal 'doda' (the raw material used for opium production) and apprehending two suspects.
This operation was initiated based on confidential information provided by Superintendent of Police Manish Toppo, which suggested that a considerable amount of 'doda' was hidden in the home of Ankit Hajam and Lalu Hajam in Babu Toli of Naudhi village, located within Arki police station limits.
Upon confirmation of the lead, a raiding team was assembled, directed by Station House Officer Praveen Kumar Tiwari. The police team arrived at the location around 1 p.m. on Thursday, secured the area, and commenced their search.
During the operation, a young man present at the site identified himself as Ankit Hajam, also known as Saju Thakur. Upon questioning, he admitted to his involvement in the illicit doda trade alongside his brother Lalu Hajam. Acting on this information, law enforcement recovered a total of 330.21 kg of doda, neatly packed in 21 sacks from their residence. The estimated value of the confiscated materials is approximately Rs 49.53 lakh.
Following this, police proceeded with another raid and arrested the second suspect, Lalu Hajam.
A case has been filed at Arki police station (Case No. 07/26) under multiple sections of the NDPS Act, 1985.
This operation included the efforts of SHO Tiwari, Sub-Inspector Manish Kumar, Kundan Kumar, and armed personnel from the Arki police station.
Just a day prior, on March 25, police seized 39.79 kg of doda along with 6.320 kg of opium in the Jariagarh police station area, valued at around Rs 36 lakh. In that instance, four individuals — Santosh Aind, Jeevan Jashman Aind alias Lebre, Mahadev Tuti alias Manish, and Jatha Sanga alias Mukatra Sanga — were arrested and subsequently jailed.
