New Delhi, April 2 (NationPress) The Rajya Sabha is set to deliberate on the Immigration and Foreigners Bill, 2025 this Wednesday, following its passage in the Lok Sabha.

According to the agenda of the Upper House, Union Minister Amit Shah will introduce the Bill “to empower the Central Government with specific authorities related to the requirement of passports or other travel documents for individuals entering and exiting India, and for regulating matters concerning foreigners, including visa requirements and registration, along with any associated matters, as approved by the Lok Sabha, for consideration.”

He will also request the Bill's approval following a thorough discussion among the House members.

A significant feature of the Bill is the introduction of improved surveillance and security measures. While addressing the Lok Sabha about the Bill's significance, the Union Home Minister emphasized, “This will enhance our nation's security and economy, facilitate a global standing for our educational institutions, establish a robust foundation for research and investigations, and position India as a leader in every sector by 2047.”

He pointed out that immigration is not a standalone issue; rather, it is intertwined with numerous national concerns. He asserted that it is crucial for national security to have knowledge of who is entering our borders, the timing of their entry, their duration of stay, and their purpose.

Additionally, the Boilers Bill, 2024, which has returned from the Lok Sabha with amendments, will also be introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Union Minister Piyush Goyal will propose that the amendments from the Lok Sabha be reviewed.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar will provide a statement on the “Current status of the implementation regarding the recommendations in the Tenth Report (Seventeenth Lok Sabha) from the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs concerning 'PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi)' of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.”

Members of the Upper House, including Sushmita Dev, Rekha Sharma, and Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, will present the “366th Report (in English and Hindi) from the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports regarding 'Demands for Grants (2025-26)' related to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.”
